The latest version of the Shimano Aerlex series offers a vast improvement on the previous model. The Aerlex is the first reel series in the surf long cast big pit reels from Shimano, designed to help surf casters achieve maximum casting distance to help reach waters that occupy coastal species. The new Aerlex offers a long cast ARC spool which allows for minimum spool lip friction for casting and line release. There have also been internal upgrades of an additional bearing on the main gear to improve the overall smoothness of rotation while the handle has been upgraded to machined Aluminium, to improve the overall strength. As with all the big pit long cast reels the Aerlex XSB is a worm driven oscillating system (Aerowrap II). This offers a much slower oscillation and more consistent line lay, that is essential for spool release and casting distance.
